Practical CPD for Water & Flood First Responder
Keeping your flood response team trained, competent and ready to deploy takes time, planning and money. Square Knot delivers practical CPD for DEFRA Module 2 – Water & Flood First Responders, helping teams maintain their skills without the unnecessary cost of travelling to traditional training venues.
Based in the South East of England, we deliver training in suitable local waterways, allowing teams to practise in environments relevant to their operational area.
Our instructors are frontline 999 responders with extensive experience in emergency response, water safety and casualty management. We bring this practical experience into our training, helping responders maintain the skills and confidence needed when incidents occur.
Meeting Your CPD Requirements
The December 2025 Defra Flood Rescue Concept of Operations sets out annual CPD and three-year recertification requirements for flood responders.
The Module 2-specific guidance includes a minimum of eight hours of CPD annually, at least two training sessions per year and practical training in an appropriate water environment. The wider guidance also sets out additional CPD expectations, so teams should confirm the requirements applicable to their capability and assurance arrangements.
Square Knot can help you plan and deliver relevant training, maintain appropriate records and support your ongoing competency programme.
Flexible CPD for Your Team
Bespoke Instructor-Led Sessions
Our instructors can develop sessions around the skills your team needs to maintain. Training can include water awareness, dynamic risk assessment, self-rescue, throw bag skills, shallow water crossings, equipment use and casualty management.
Sessions are adapted to your team’s experience, equipment and operational environment.
CPD at Your Existing Training Nights
Already running regular training nights? We can join you.
Our instructors can provide specialist input, structured learning objectives and appropriate CPD documentation and sign-off for the activities delivered, helping you make more of your existing training programme.
CPD During Exercises and Scenarios
We can attend planned exercises and scenarios, observe practical performance, introduce additional challenges and provide feedback to individuals and teams.
Where activities meet the applicable requirements, they can be recorded towards CPD, helping turn your existing exercises into valuable learning opportunities.
Train in the Water You Work In
The Defra guidance identifies relevant water features for training, including obstacles, rocks and stoppers, small rapids and eddies.
Our South East delivery options help reduce travel costs and time away from work or other commitments, while allowing responders to practise in suitable environments relevant to their operational area.
All sessions are planned around appropriate risk assessment, water conditions, access and team capability.
