NWSMP Inland/Coastal Waterways – Safe Working In Water

The NWSMP In water courses include the skills required to safely work in water.

The course can be separated into those working in inland water or those working in coastal environments.

Students can either complete one of the environments or both depending on their needs.

Inland Waterways – for those working in-water with a focus specifically on inland waterway hazards.

Designed for those working in inland waters such as lakes, canals, rivers and streams this course helps individuals and organisations stay safe and meet their legislative requirements.

The course includes skills such as identifying inland hazards, risk assessment, defensive swimming, land based rescue and in water rescue skills.

For the assessment, candidates must complete the Inland Waterways workbook and a practical assessment, including a swim of 50m in an open water environment.


Coastal Waterways – for those working in-water with a focus specifically on coastal waterway hazards.

Designed for those working in coastal waters such as beaches, estuaries and shorelines this course helps individuals and organisations stay safe and meet their legislative requirements..

The course includes skills such as identifying coastal hazards, risk assessment, defensive swimming, returning to shore through surf, land based rescue and in water rescue skills.

For the assessment, candidates must complete the Coastal Waterways workbook and a practical assessment, including a swim of 50m in an open water environment.
