Maintain Your Skills. Train for the Real Environment.
Swiftwater rescue demands regular practice, sound judgement and confidence in moving water. Square Knot delivers practical CPD for DEFRA Module 3 – Water & Flood Rescue Technicians, helping teams maintain their technical skills without the additional cost and time associated with travelling to traditional training centres.
Based in the South East of England, we offer training in suitable moving-water environments relevant to the demands of flood and swiftwater rescue.
Our instructors are frontline 999 responders with extensive experience in emergency response and casualty management. This operational experience informs our training, ensuring sessions focus on practical skills, sound decision-making and the challenges responders may face during real incidents.
Meeting Your CPD Requirements
The December 2025 Defra Flood Rescue Concept of Operations sets out annual CPD and three-year recertification requirements for Module 3 technicians.
The Module 3-specific guidance includes a minimum of twelve hours of CPD annually, at least two training sessions per year and a minimum of six hours in the specified water environment.
Square Knot can help your team plan meaningful CPD, maintain appropriate records and prepare for ongoing competency and recertification requirements.
Flexible CPD for Technical Rescuers
Bespoke Instructor-Led Sessions
Our instructors can develop sessions around your team’s requirements, from focused skills refreshers to more comprehensive technical training.
Topics can include swiftwater hydrology, swimming techniques, self-rescue, throw bag skills, shallow water crossings, rope rescue systems, equipment use, casualty management and dynamic risk assessment.
CPD at Your Existing Training Nights
We can attend your regular training nights, providing specialist instruction, structured learning objectives and appropriate CPD documentation and sign-off for the activities delivered.
This allows you to maintain your existing programme while adding experienced instructor input without arranging a separate training day.
CPD During Exercises and Scenarios
Our instructors can support planned exercises and rescue scenarios, observing performance, introducing additional challenges and providing constructive feedback.
From technical rescue drills to casualty recovery and team coordination, we can help make existing exercises more effective and record suitable activities towards CPD where applicable.
Train in Suitable Moving Water
The Defra guidance identifies relevant water features for Module 2 and Module 3 training, including obstacles, rocks and stoppers, small rapids and eddies.
Training in an appropriate environment allows technicians to practise their skills in moving water while developing their understanding of hazards, rescue options and operational limitations.
Our South East delivery options can reduce travel costs while keeping training closer to your operational area. Every session is planned around suitable conditions, appropriate risk assessment and the team’s capability.
